We want your Day Surgery at Olathe Medical Center to be as
convenient and safe for you as possible. After talking to
hundreds of patients who have had Day Surgery here, we have
compiled the most frequently asked questions and have answered
them in this information sheet. We hope this information will
be helpful to you. If you have questions that have not been
answered here, please contact a Day Surgery nurse at (913)
791-4344.
Do I need to contact anyone at the medical center
before my surgery?
No, you do not need to contact anyone
at the medical center. Because your surgery is being done
with local anesthesia (you will be awake) there are no pre-operative
laboratory tests required. You should arrive 45 minutes before
your scheduled surgery time, and report to Day Surgery Registration,
which is located on the first floor of the medical center.
We encourage you to pre-register; this will decrease the time
you spend waiting for necessary paper work to be completed.
You can pre-register by calling 791-4231 or 791-4232 and asking
to speak to a Patient Registration Clerk (7 days a week, 24
hours a day). Please have insurance, Medicare numbers, etc
available when you call. Questions about insurance coverage
can be answered by one of our Patient Account Representatives
(Monday-Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, 791-4264).
May I eat breakfast the morning of my surgery?
Yes, you may eat or drink anything that you wish unless your doctor tells you differently.
If I become ill before my surgery date, what should I do?
Notify your physician if you develop a cold, fever, infection or
any other change in your physical condition prior to surgery.
How should I prepare myself to come to the medical center?
Please shower or bathe before coming to the medical center.
Wear casual loose fitting clothes. You will be asked to change
into a gown after you arrive. This is necessary because your
surgery will be done in a sterile operating room and street
clothes cannot be worn there. We will also ask you to remove
your jewelry and glasses before surgery.
How will I know what I can and cannot do after surgery?
A Day Surgery nurse will review your physician’s discharge instructions with you. We’ll
make sure your questions are answered before you leave our
medical center.
Will I be able to leave immediately after
my surgery is over?
You will be free to leave as soon as you
are dressed and your discharge instructions have been reviewed
with you.
If I have any problems after I get home what should
I do?
You should contact your surgeon if you have any problems
or questions. Our Emergency Department is staffed at all times
with physicians and nurses who can help you if you feel you
need immediate care.
